At the end of 2021 when Facebook announced its rebranding to Meta, the topic of discussion in the mainstream market was brought to life (1). In simple terms, the Metaverse is a virtual reality, a futuristic concept where people live their life and simply just explore this new world. Through the avatar that you create you can do pretty much anything like meet new people, invest in properties, go out to eat, etc. (1). The only thing separating the Metaverse from the world we live in is a VR/AR headset (1). The possibilities are endless, and the list of benefits goes on.
Connecting with people
The world shut down in 2020 during the pandemic, requiring people to stay in their homes and social distance. It was a hard adjustment for people to not go out into the world or have face to face interactions. In the Metaverse, you can meet and interact with new and old people from the comfort of your own home. This is also beneficial for people that deal with social anxiety or get nervous meeting new people.
The Metaverse is being set up to where live events can and will be held (1). That gives people a better opportunity to experience live music, movies, performances, lectures, etc. Not having to spend money on travel and experiencing big moments from the comfort of your own home will attract many viewers. It will allow people to step out of their comfort zones and experience new things. Some events will even hold ticket sales for audiences to purchase to ensure that people will be in attendance.
The Real Estate market is something people are always looking into. The market is constantly fluctuating and evolving. The Metaverse is no different. People are already purchasing land, investing in properties, setting up rentals, office spaces, new businesses, etc. To be able to expand your assets in this new reality by networking and setting up new business ventures without having to commute will give people more opportunities to expand their portfolio (2).
A virtual school system for a mass population had to go underway when the world shut down in 2020 during the pandemic. Teachers, students, and the schools were not prepared to be put in that situation. They had to make do with the small amount of time and resources provided. 2 years later the world is more accustomed to working from home and a virtual school system. The Metaverse will allow teachers to virtually teach class from the comforts of their own homes, with classrooms designed to look identical to the ones students are used to in the real world (3). Teachers will be provided with resources to help enhance their teaching abilities, and students will have the ability to interact with other students, work on assignments together, debate different topics, etc. (3). The learning environment will not restrict students from learning in just a classroom environment, but at outdoor venues, coffee shops, etc. (3)
